The days fly by with the computer, the phone, domestic duties. Most days I try to get outside to do something aerobic. Today I put my running shoes on about 4:30 p.m., dropped off a photo DVD to a potential customer and then wandered down to the water to check our boat at the public dock. The Universe has such a sense of humour. One of my principles is to always carry my camera.

The tide was way out. There before me were the greatest assortment of sea stars I have ever seen in the seven years we have lived on the Coast. Besides the rainbow of purple and maroon fat juicy ones… there was the most fiery fluorescent orange sun star I have ever seen. The sky was steely overcast and this sea star the size of a generous dinner plate with many tentacles, had slid toward the sea making a finger-like pattern in the sand. Various bits of wood and white oyster shells set it off and the very same colour was bobbing up and down in the waves as the orange buoy balls marked the crab traps. The blue grey mountains folded in up the inlet as the sky darkened. All this is to say I love photography. I love the spontaneous beauty of the Coast and Nature no matter where I travel. Whether it is a commercial project, portrait or a family event I also love to capture the essence to make people so comfortable that they forget to be self conscious about the camera.

Oh yes. I have a great camera and it really helps when I bring it! On a professional note I have studied and worked in a photo lab while I was taking a Masters degree in Culture and Spirituality in California. While in Sechelt I taught Photography and Art at the High School Level. My work has been displayed across Canada and Internationally. Contact me with your personal or commercial photography project ideas and I will be happy to give you an idea of the cost and time frame. The best photos are totally in the moment. Yet a photo is a lasting memory of that precious moment in time. It is the both/and which makes the art so enduring. Those sea stars are slow movers, so when I returned the next day with my camera they were showing off their beauty once again.
Thank heavens!
Enjoy!
